Still. Just because you are eighteen, does not mean you actually are a full fledged adult. At that age, you were still a child. A teenager. Probably prone to so many mistakes in life and will probably make many more. That does not make you independent or wise.
If you want to be wise, use everything to your convenience and advantage. Living in the same house as your parents? Yes, can get quite annoying and suffocating. Maybe even pressuring. But in the back of your mind, at least you are not spending as much money. So who is really the wise one here?
This inspired you. You wanted to become really successful like him. So you told him about your dream and he helped you achieve it. He became your surrogate father in the end.
